I tried this solution https://magento.stackexchange.com/a/205232/65951 and it worked but then the state is not being saved after placing an order. I want to save state info too.

Add di.xml in your module

<config xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="urn:magento:framework:ObjectManager/etc/config.xsd">
<preference for="MagentoCheckoutBlockCheckoutLayoutProcessor" type="vendormoduleBlockCheckoutLayoutProcessor" />
</config>
Create a LayoutProcessor.php in this path vendormoduleBlockCheckoutLayoutProcessor.php
Copy the file from
Vendor/magento/module-checkout/Block/Checkout/LayoutProcessor.php
